Cancer![]() Cancer is a very real and devastating disease that not only affects the patient but also the family and friends. From the initial suspicion of cancer through to its many different stages, each person affected will undergo a brigade of emotions. From the hypnotherapy viewpoint, we work to strengthen the mind to prepare its driver to operate the body in the best way possible towards its own distinctive goal. Each individual battle with cancer brings forth its own brand of growth and development especially if it is affecting someone close to heart. For some, the patient may be focused on beating the cancer whilst others are resolved to settle their affairs once their decision is made. Neither option is easier than the other but hypnotherapy can facilitate a communication between the conscious and unconscious to determine the best course of action required for the patient to achieve. Hypnotherapy can help to access one's inner strength and resources to fight against or prepare for the dis-ease. Sometimes things are buried so deep that repair is difficult but very much needed. The soul calls out to be noticed and healing is made possible at different levels by being in connection to one's inner personal truth to either heal the body or to heal family rifts. A prominent cancer specialist shared his finding that perhaps an amazing correlation lies between the onset of breast cancer and the occurrence of traumatic events in a woman's life. He noted that women who had cancer in the left breast tended to have had trauma with a spouse whilst women who had cancer in the right breast tended to have had trauma in a mother-child relationship. Benign growthsTracey was in a stressful situation with family responsibilities and change of job. This had followed the recent loss of her father to cancer and now Tracey was in the midst of deciding her options for her surviving mother. The relationship between mother and child had often been strained but with this new loss, both women were forced to consider possibilities not really thought of seriously before.Tracey noticed a lump in her right breast and upon thorough medical examination was told that her 11mm growth was benign. However the doctors scheduled to have it removed as a precaution. Tracey was asked to consider reviewing her role and feelings towards her mother. Four weeks had passed and her planned surgery was still unscheduled but during this time, her mother had come to stay with her and to her surprise, she discovered a few days after her mother's arrival that the lump was difficult to locate. Interestingly, a few years back, Tracey was having some marital difficulty and a lump had appeared in her left breast. She and her husband committed themselves to overcome their marriage difficulties by attending several personal development workshops together. Shortly after, she noticed the lump had disappeared altogether.
